Two sisters walk into the Shark Tank…

One of the most surreal moments of my life was walking down that long hallway with my sister Donna to pitch our business on Shark Tank. No matter how many times you’ve watched the show and prepped potential questions, nothing can quite prepare you for that dose of adrenaline and nerves that comes with being there in the flesh.

We had been tirelessly prepping for that very moment for months. We worked so hard, looking back now I wonder how we even did it. (I’ve thought about this question a lot and I have an answer! More on that later.) As we stood there waiting for the doors to open to enter the Tank, we took a quick moment to soak it all in. We looked at each other, looked around at the huge Hollywood set we were standing on, held hands and squeezed them, and said a quick prayer. We weren’t even done having our moment when an excited PA appeared in front of us and made us jolt in our place. He motioned the countdown with his hand 5…4…3…2…1… and just like that the doors swung open and for a few seconds neither of us moved. And then just like that, as though at the wave of a magician’s wand we were off. I remember thinking in that moment “one foot in front of the other.” The last thing I wanted was to trip and fall. There was no dramatic shark music playing, which may sound obvious but it wasn’t then. My ears strained to find it but no such luck. It was actually really quiet.
